Mold/Mildew in Bulk Foods?

MOLDS: Molds can be toxic and poisonous, and cannot be rinsed away once they have taken hold in foods. If grains sprout spontaneously or smell moldy, they have been damp enough to grow molds and should be discarded. Damp rye grains are particularly dangerous.

The ONLY way to prevent molding is to make sure the product is thoroughly dried when you store it and stays dry (humidity less than 12%). By adding diatomaceous earth (see other articles on this blog on that subject!) to your grains, cereals and nuts, you can help keep your food dry and prevent mold from happening.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of....dry and mold free grain! Take good care to package your food stuffs properly!
